What Causes Sciatica?
There are many causes of sciatica, but the most common is a herniated disc. This occurs when the jelly-like center of a disc in your spine ruptures and puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. Other causes include spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal canal, and Piriformis Syndrome, which is when the Piriformis muscle in the buttocks compresses the sciatic nerve.
What Are Common Symptoms of Sciatica?
The most common symptom of sciatica is pain that starts in the lower back and radiates through the buttock and down the leg. This pain can range from mild to severe and can make it difficult to stand, sit, or even walk. Other symptoms include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the affected leg.

Treatment & Relief from Sciatica Pain
One of the most common treatments we use for sciatica is spinal manipulation. This is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps to realign the spine and take pressure off of the sciatic nerve.
We may also recommend other treatments such as massage therapy, at-home exercises and lifestyle changes. We use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to provide our patients with the best possible care.
In addition to treating sciatica, we also help patients experiencing back pain, shoulder pain and neck pain. Ongoing chiropractic treatment addresses chronic pain and will also provide relief for acute pain.
We encourage you to schedule an appointment with our Yuba City chiropractor to receive an initial assessment and get on a path to wellness.
