Chiropractic care in Yuba City Hands-on relief for a sore back, a stiff neck and a slouch that’s settled in.

An adjustment is a gentle, hands-on movement that frees up a spinal joint that has stiffened or stopped moving well. It can ease pain and help the joint move freely again, with no surgery and no medication. Dr. Kalay examines your posture and movement first, so each adjustment goes where your exam says it’s needed.

In California you can book with a chiropractor directly, no doctor’s note required.
Every age
Adults, children and expecting mothers, each examined and adjusted on their own terms.

When is it time to see a chiropractor?

Ideally, before pain starts running your day. Many people wait until it’s constant or keeps coming back. If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth a visit.

A practitioner in a white coat talks a couple through notes on a tablet at a desk, farmland through the window behind

It’s worth coming in when

  1. 01Back pain or neck pain is getting in the way of work, sleep or the things you enjoy.
  2. 02You sit most of the day, at a desk or behind the wheel, and your neck and shoulders pay for it.
  3. 03Your neck or back has stiffened, and you can’t turn or bend as far as you used to.
  4. 04An injury from work, a sport or a car accident is healing slower than you hoped.
  5. 05Your posture has slipped: head forward, shoulders rounded, or one shoulder sitting higher than the other.

See a medical doctor first if

  • You have new weakness or numbness in an arm or leg.
  • You notice changes in bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin.
  • Your pain is severe or getting worse quickly.
  • It could be an emergency. Call 911 rather than waiting for an appointment.

These need prompt medical care, not an adjustment. And if your exam points to something chiropractic can’t help, Dr. Kalay will say so and point you to the right kind of care.

Adjustments, and what we pair them with.

Adjustments are the core of most plans here. When your exam turns up something they can’t handle alone, Dr. Kalay adds care built for that problem and walks you through the reason first.

  • If a disc is pressing on a nerve

    Spinal decompression

An adjustment works on the joint. Decompression is a slow, computer-controlled stretch aimed at the disc itself, so plans for sciatica and disc pain often use both.

  • If inflammation won’t let the area relax

    MLS laser therapy

Inflamed tissue guards against movement. Laser light can help calm it, so the muscles around a joint aren’t fighting the adjustment.

  • If a tendon or old injury has stalled

    SoftWave therapy

Gentle acoustic waves are designed to restart the body’s repair response in soft tissue that adjustments alone don’t reach.

  • If the imbalance starts at your feet

    Custom orthotics

Collapsing arches can tilt the pelvis and pull the spine with it. Orthotics made from a 3D scan of your feet can help adjustments hold.

  • If the pain is gone and you’d like it to stay gone

    Wellness care

Periodic visits once the original problem has settled, for people who sit all day, train hard or simply want to keep moving well.

Adjustments are also part of our auto injury, children’s and prenatal care, each adapted to the person on the table.

From first visit to first adjustment.

It’s less of a quick “back crack” than people expect. The first visit is mostly questions and an exam, and the adjustments that follow are gentle and aimed at what the exam turned up.

  1. Before you come

    Jot a few things down.

When it started, where you feel it and what makes it better or worse. Bring any X-rays, MRIs or records you already have, and a list of your medications.

  2. First visit

    Questions, then a posture check.

Shoulder height, pelvic tilt, knees, feet, the way you walk and the curves of your spine, with X-rays if your case needs them.

  3. Same visit

    Your first adjustment.

You lie on a padded table while Dr. Kalay makes gentle, targeted adjustments to the segments the exam found stuck. Speak up if anything feels uncomfortable.

  4. Between visits

    Your half of the work.

Expect advice on how to sit, stand, walk and set up your desk, plus a few stretches for home. Getting up and moving through a long workday helps too.

Days to several weeks depending on how severe the problem is and what you want from care

Visits are usually closer together at the start, while your body gets used to moving a new way. No one schedule suits everyone, so ask what each follow-up is for and when the plan will be reviewed.

Pain can ease sooner than posture changes. Posture takes longer, because the muscles and habits holding the old position have to change too.

About Dr. Kalay

General information, not medical advice. Your own exam decides your care.

Will my insurance cover chiropractic care?

Often, at least in part, but coverage varies by plan. Many commercial plans cover medically necessary chiropractic care, though some HMO plans want a referral first. Medicare Part B covers spinal adjustments but usually not the initial exam or diagnostic tests. We don’t accept Medi-Cal or Covered California plans. Our staff can check your benefits before your first visit, and you’ll get a cost estimate up front.

Can chiropractic care help with headaches?

It can help some, particularly tension headaches that start in the neck or at the base of the skull, where easing strain may make them less frequent. Some patients who come in for back pain notice their headaches ease too. Headaches that are severe, getting worse or unlike your usual ones should be checked by a medical doctor first.

Does bad posture mean my spine is out of alignment?

Not necessarily. Slouching at a desk or rounding your back to read doesn’t prove anything is misaligned, and posture shifts through the day with habit, fatigue and the task in front of you. What matters more is whether pain or stiffness keeps coming back, or stops you moving the way you need to. That’s what the exam looks at.

I’ve slouched for years. Can my posture still change?

Often, yes, though long-standing habits take longer to shift than recent ones. Adjustments help, but they’re only part of it. The exercises and desk changes you’re given matter just as much, because screens and long drives don’t go away, and keeping them up is what helps a change last.

Will adjustments improve my overall health?

We won’t promise that. Research supports spinal adjustments for certain muscle and joint problems, such as low back pain, not as a way to prevent illness or improve organ function. Care here is aimed at the specific problem your exam finds and the things you want to do more comfortably.

Start with an exam. Then a plan built around what it finds.
